ipernity workshop: content rating and filtering system / Discussions

ipernity promotes pictures from the Sony World Photography Awards. So far so good.

But many of those pictures seriously violate the rules of ipernity, some of which are even illegal. Let's see some examples.

A young boy which appears nude. This at least attracts child molesters. It potentially even constitutes child pornography!

A goat (?) killed by cutting its throat. Very bloody scene. This is definitely disturbing to many people, in particular to children. It is a really cruel picture.

Another picture shows a young human being (androgyny appearance), most likely underage. It looks like "disposed after use". This will clearly be a traumatic experience for children watching this scene.

One picture shows men going down to protect themselves near an explosion. Also potentially traumatic to children, in particular to those who come from war zones! It might also violate the right of those shown on the picture. Candid shots are the reason for many people being suspended.

Two pictures show victims of terror victims in the Netherlands. Despite violating the rights of the victims, this scene will seriously frighten children.

Finally, we find a scene where sheep are slaughtered and have their skin removed. We all know that children like those cute animals. The will have nightmares after watching this scene and question the cruelty of those eating meat, maybe even their parents.

All of this must not be shown in public on ipernity according to the rules. This is all visible to everybody, though.

As we see, those pictures explicitly promoted are potentially dangerous for children. Yet in the name of protecting children (a lie in the first place) totally harmless pictures showing adults are censored.

For example, I had to hide an image of a beautiful woman just bare breasted and blindfolded, a very peaceful scenery, another user was suspended for two pictures which both have previously been chosen by the ipernity team for display on the start page. Even after removing these artful pictures 24 hours ago, she remains suspended.

Conclusion: Pictures which seriously endanger the development of children can be shown and are even promoted. Harmless nude art on the other hand is blocked. So at least we know it does not have to do with children, but that was clear anyway.
