Favourite Travel Destination?

I know - a very difficult topic. after all, what inspires one photographer may not be interesting to a fellow shooter.
Personally, I loved India, Japan and China for the cultural insights, Australia, South Africa and Chile for the grandiose landscapes, Scotland for many pleasant memories...

On the other hand, I'm thinking about where to go on my next trips...
Myanmar might be an option, and I just have to return to Japan to improve my rudimentary language skills and keep in touch with some people there.
Any recommendations?

My favourits are the Greek Islands (Kos and Corfu).

I don't like to fly longer then 3 hours with a plane.

yes, flying can be very tiresome. - especially in economy class.
For very long flights I sometimes try to make a stopover somewhere (for example I revisited Bali when I came back from Australia) but this cuts down on the time you have at your main destination.

On the other hand, if the in-flight movies are ok and one manages to grasp a bit of sleep, all the small annoyances of flying are soon forgotten and seeing a totally different culture is surely worth it.

After many flight, I still find it amazing that you can board a plane in cold winter Germany and one night later you get out of it in a tropical climate...

Although I flew around a lot, I agree with you Laurenz, that for me it is also always amazing entering a plane and leaving it a couple of hours and stepping into a completly different climate and culture zone.

Regarding my favourite travel destination: I think I am infected with virus africanus ;-) Having been in south africa last year, I spent 3 weeks in Namibia. This was absolutely fantastic. Thus, we are currently planning to have our next holidays in Botswana and North Namibia.

It is not something great but I love the highland farming, mist, small town living, friendly people, fresh fruit and vegetable, tea plantation, nice weather (~ 18 to 28 deg C) - Cameron Highland, Malaysia.

I've always thought of planes like a very slow transporter beam- i love the way the world changes each time you step through the door. The Indian subcontinent is my new favourite place- just got back from Pakistan, and it was worlds better than I expected - the people in the North were wonderful, which i hadn't expected at all and it just made for a terrific experience. I'd love to go back, even tho maintaining hygiene was a major issue. Not a problem if you're a bear (and can go in the wild ^-^)

i cant really say what's my favourite destination, cos there are so many places i don't know yet. in general i decide to visite places where i know some people. that is making it much more easy in terms of understanding cultures, seeing the secret places and of course having close contacts to the people living there. since 2 years i am working in senegal and i am still finding places i was never visiting before and still i am impressed about the baobabs and the different landscapes outside of dakar. next destination could be mali: photobiennale 2007!?

Well, I think my favourites are India and Thailand, for quite opposite reasons.
Thailand for this amazing people gentleness, the calm of countryside, even Bangkok may seem fairly relaxing - for a multimillion town. Guess I like it also as I now have a few friends there.
I love India for it is amazingly noisy, quick, dense ... well, such a living country in fact, with its very unique culture you can find absolutely nowhere else.
