Jens Soering Day
On August 25 this year, I watched a TV documentary on a fate so grim, it makes my own struggles appear as insignificant as a broken shoestring: The conviction of Jens Soering to a double life sentence for murder in the first degree - a crime, he never committed. From reading into the facts all day long today, facts on this incomprehensibly cruel account of events and their ungraspable outcome - and I'm not talking about the crime scene, which can only be described as a slaying spree -, the a…

wide awake on the train
A man with a face carved by nature wears life all over each gaze is long eyes are pulled slowly from one place and come to rest at another heavy with knowledge heavy with a certain sadness. certain to him. A quiet diginity surrounds his weathered features. Another man finds solace with alcohol accentuated autumnal colours leaves blazing in the Scandinavian sun. A young mother, sits ands stares defiantly. Inquisitively engaging and disengaging with the strangers i…

photography and inspiration - thank you all!!!!
I first studied photography, and that was when it really took off as a hobby, at school. I studied for a GCSE in Photography when i was 15-16, working with black and white 35mm and pinhole cameras. I loved, for two years, the prospect of spending hours in the darkroom - that magic of seeing your photo emerge before your eyes. My teacher, a huge fan of black and white, introduced me to Sebastiao Salgado http://www.terra.com.br/sebastiaosalgado/ (please do visit his site, you won't be dissapo…

the selfless and nature
The burden of the world falls on the shoulders of the selfless. Without conditionality, without demands, millions of these miracles pass between us. Soaking up the tears of the world without bitterness. Receiving the punches of the angry, with not a resort to violence. It is not about hope. These people can exist without the fragility of hope. A natural logic. They simply cannot see how we could be any other way. How they could not act as they do? Theirs is a unbreakable conviction in…

what everyone wants?
What everyone wants, above all else, Is to be remembered and revered, When their bones have to turned to dust. Otherwise, Why was it worth all that we did? Only to die and never have existed. It renders us ineffective, Pointless carriers of observation, If no footprint is left. If no-one talks of us, Remembers us. Then we were never born. Never loved nor cried. We never lived. Never tried. All that graft, That guile. Difficult choices and saving for tomo…

The charade of the big society
So, election looms here in the UK, and the first ever TV debate between the leaders of the big three parties, (Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, and Labour), arrived to much fanfare. It was a miracle that the debate finally recognised that there are a plurality of political parties here- helping us get past the shall I vote for or against one of the big two scenario that has persisted for so long because we don't have proportional representation. Anyway, I digress. What prompted me to…

Oh Lonely Bird
Oh Lonely Bird Oh lonely bird where are you flying to? Your wings are clipped as you brush across the tree Your beak is torn from such weathered touch Yet you fly and you do not lose your voice Singing throughout the air and gracing the face of the sun Oh lonely bird how are you finding ways to fly high? Standing on the branch to look out over the world So larger than you and so distance from you And you survive just fine when nature holds you in its hand Oh lonely bird, you are…

THE WORLD AS IT COULD BE MADE - Bertrand Russell
One of my favourite thinkers and one who possess the ability to communicate his ideas so clearly. This is taken from a book called roads to freedom which you can find online at : www.zpub.com/notes/rfree10.html "In the daily lives of most men and women, fear plays a greater part than hope: they are more filled with the thought of the possessions that others may take from them, than of the joy that they might create in their own lives and in the lives with which they come in contact. It is…

approaching a milestone, 20000 visits in 8 months
it was never an aim to get X visits or X favourties from other people, but I did want to share photos with people, and be inspired by others, and leave a record of how i see the world and how my life and photography changes. To have had so much interest from so many people, I am pleased and flattered. Thanks to all who have visited and especially to those who share their thoughts and pictures with me, Best wishes to all Jonathan

A propos des anciens...
Ce mois d'août, me laissant un peu de temps à la généalogie, j'ai reussi à trouver mes ancêtres: Voici le résultat... Vous êtes pas obligé de tout lire...mais voici ce qui vous attends.... Where Is It When?
Where is it when I saw yesterday? The thump of my eye turning the corner at the sound of the light Creeping past my curtains and into my eye Where is it now? I am chanting again and don't even know why Someone walked past me and thought they saw a flash Dawned to beat it down, Dawned to make love to it It pulled back when I turned my head around Where is it when I knew you'd say? "Oh why do you care when you choose to berate me?" I entered your life with spoons and pans…

a leaf trembles
A leaf trembles, As it hangs on for dear life, Alongside the rushing train. Power lines accompany, With their elegant mechanical stride. The scarred and tired landscape bares all, Shivering in the cool early spring. Rosy shimmering faces nudge warmly against the glass, Hoping to be recognised, hoping to be remembered. Hoping for something.

Travelling and the individual
I wrote this a couple of years ago, and it stands true even with my self-imposed ban on flying for travelling. We can travel in many ways, responsibly. We can even 'travel' just by people coming into our lives, when we are standing still. I have learnt more since I wrote this, and some of the writing reveals a paradox. We should always be ourselves in every circumstance, and not be so reflective. Anyway, I'll update my current thoughts another time. London 26/10/2006…

The warning! The coming global genocide
The warning! The coming global genocide! Happy Christmas and new year, unless the energy transfer weapon is unleashed in its full glory. I want to share specific details about this energy transfer weapon and its relation to AIDS, cancer, the coming bird flu and the global famine (based on my personal experience and analysis). I will also change psychology by removing emotions and introducing conductivity as “feelings”. In addittion i will remove Evolution and replace it with “Energy transfer…

Love Story
Sorrow Hearts He whispers She lifts up her eyes She calls He walks away His heart ways heavy and his heart is playing her tune A story that she remembers, a best friend she adores She needs to be near Two hearts intertwined with ribbons surrounding them with the weight of her heart He cannot break free Love coming into two different worlds and bringing the feelings of sorrow Both stories are universal and both are acknowledged completely She holds her hand closely to the memo…

Are You Ready?
Are You Ready? Turn away now and face the light Don’t turn my way I am standing there behind you I am soaking up the rays of gentle touches Light blinding me as I move forward and push you with me Don’t tell me to slow down, we got to move fast It’s ok to tell me you’re sorry, It’s ok to say you’re angry I won’t turn around and save you Unless you are willing to turn around and save me too We are in this together I say, you and me Turn away now, you will start to miss me Can…

They Hide Away and Mistake You
They Hide Away and Mistake You They watch quietly with swollen, dark eyes into the rest of the world And when they feel they are being stared at, they smile wickedly I am not looking because I know too often a face as cold is only an expression of what’s to come Stranded by it all, I still look back at them Walking around them and trying to understand them I cannot, for their laughter sounds of happiness but their eyes are a glare of pain Frustrated by their own company, a solemn…

Best of : February 2007
February 2007 was the month for Chinese New Year, the “ Golden Pig ” year. As living in the Chinatown area in Paris, I overcame my firecrackers phobia and went in the streets with my Nikon. I only brought my 55-200mm to work on portraits (and to be able to stay distant from those amazing firecrackers they seems to love so much…). I really didn’t regret my choice as the streets were so crowdy, it was sometimes hard to manage any approach. Here are a few selected shots from this celebrat…
