There is an exercise that old fashioned naturalist recommend, requiring one to sit very still for a minimum of 10 minutes. It is thought this is the magic moment when animals forget you are there and go on about their business. I'd been trying it for the last few months without much success.

My favorite spot is where two streams feed into the tidal estuary of Bear Trap creek. The waters seem particularly rich where they join and so I settled there to watch. I didn't notice the flock of ducks across the way .... my excitement I only caught a blur before they took off!
