WE ARE INVADED, SURROUNDED... ON THE WAY TO MY VILLAGE UPHILLS THEY ARE DESTROYING WILD NATURE TO "PLANT" THOUSANDS OF SOLAR PANNELS.
WE HAVE BETWEEN 5 AND 6 MONTHS OF DRY SEASON, THE REST OF THE YEAR IT HAPPENS TO RAIN, IN VIOLENT FORM BUT FEW DAYS. WATER IS A PRECIOUS COMMODITY FOR US, AS WELL AS THE TREES. TO INSTALL SOLAR PANELS, THOUSANDS OF TREES ARE CUT DOWN, WHICH WILL ONLY INCREASE OUR WATER PROBLEMS.
THEIR RECYCLING AFTER THEIR LIFETIME IS OVER IS SOMETHING NOT CLEAR, WHAT IS CLEAR IS THAT IT WILL BE PROFITABLE FOR THE COMPANY THAT OWNS IT...

That sounds very shortsighted Isabel. There are many fields of this "crop" over here, but I think the regulations are tighter. They tend to be in what were open fields. There is a balance to be struck, but as usual, profits come first!

Estuve ocupado y ahora en USA hasta mañana, me vine a poner una dosis extra de la vacuna porque en Lima nos vacunaron con la vacuna china que es la menos efectiva, hay varios colegas medicos muertos a pesar de las dos dosis. Abrazo

Worth for the pannels and those who makes the profit out of it.
But for us who live in a dry land over 6 months a year and have already very little rain, is that wise to kill the not enough trees we has and replace them by solar pannels? Will they provide us with the so much needed rain?

HFF Isabel. Was bleibt jetzt noch? Wasserkraft? In vielen Regionen der Erde auch eher utopisch.
Xata club has replied to Stephan Fey club
Most important for my region is WATER. We have an over 6 months dry season and almost no rain the other half of the year. Fires took down trees, solar pannel plants are taking down what is left. And without trees... no rain !
I may be too old to see the results but we are already transforming us in a subdesertical area, they want us to become a desert?
Why not think of reducing demography and our consumption habits too?

Je trouve ces panneaux très laids, les éoliennes aussi. Il nous faut de l'énergie, c'est certain mais beaucoup de pays ne jouent pas le jeux et se fichent pas mal de polluer notre planète.

I'm comfortable with solar panels (I have some on my roof) but large commercial operations should not be allowed to cause environmental damage by removing trees. HFF and have a great weekend, Isabel.

Ours are on our roof, but the solar "gardens" are generally placed in fields, as someone has already said. And there are movements to make the rows between the panels and under them a habitat for small animals and insects. Cutting down trees to set up the arrays sounds downright stupid. Someone must have sold them the land the panels are on?

Xata club has replied to rdhinmn club
Expropriated you mean... corruption is the rule here... unfortunately. Those so-called ecological companies only care about their profits, they use ecology to make business...

That does indeed look invasive, Isabel. Solar panelling is not the eco friendly way that it is promoted to be. There are simpler, virtually maintenance free and much less invasive techniques we should be promoting, but ... -you are right again! - there's not enough money in those!
HFF all the same but ... I am startibng to despair we can clean up the mess we are making of the planet ...

Excessive Isabel, I agree, and they should be used correctly and with no adverse effect on the environment. We do have some fields of solar panels but we have yet another huge nuclear power station being built close by and it is ugly and an exirbitant price has already been agreed for the fuel. We will be paying the cost for years to come. Also the legacy it will leave behind as far as nuclear waste alone is concerned will be detrimental to the planet and will be with us fo rmany years. We are not in the same position as you and there is no comparison (no shortge of rain here most of the time) but I would prefer to see solar panel farming here than the awful monstosity that many do not want.

As we all agree there must be a better way

HFF and have a good weekend

It sounds as if the whole plan has not been well thought through, Isabel. We here have the same issues….or some of them. Severe water shortages, and the use of arable or forest(water retaining) land for power generation, or even worse, fracking! Our planners are all mad.
Have a lovely Sunday.
Xata club has replied to Diana Australis club
You are right, they are all mad. We will not see the consequences at our age, but there is little hope for future generations, the only way is reducing our number on earth and learn to live with less... but consumerism is designed to lead to the opposite...
