Vintage Buddha for Sunday Challenge

That's why I like Buddhism. There Buddha is usually seen with a smile. In Christianity, Jesus is always seen suffering and nailed to the cross.... :-|

I am glad not to have been raised as christian, in fear of divine punishment, adoring those suffering sculptures...

Uli, ja, es gibt andere Beispiele, aber die sind dünn gesät. In einer Kirche habe ich so etwas noch nie gesehen :)

If I were ever tempted to become religious, I think Buddhism might be the only one I could possibly embrace, for seeing life as a process of learning and gaining insight, for respecting not just human life, but life in general, for envisioning not eternal punishment for sins but chances to redeem and correct one's mistakes, for teaching empathy and understanding and for seeing serenity and balance, not selfish eternal life in bliss, as the ultimate goal. As it is, I respect it as a philosophy of life that seems much better suited to promote peace than any of the monotheist religions.
I like the image, Isabel, not only for the Buddha's happy laughter, but also for transforming the background flowers of the original into a sort of energy aura around the head of the statuette. A very interesting effect of monochrome!

Obrigada Annalia, I fully agree with you about Buddhism as philosophy and religions in general.
I wanted to give him a natural environement, contrasting but not too much, the adeniums blooing now seemed the right choice on this.

I would say that this Buddha is laughing, and the photo is making me smile even in these uncertain times.

Everytime I feel a little sad I look at him (he is on my working desk close to the imac) and feel immediatly better...
