The daily trips from Ranong harbor in Thailand to Kawthaung in Burma are also attractive for Thai people since a Kawthaung trip allows duty free shopping at Kawthaung. Many foreigners coem for the Kawthaung - Ranong "Visa Run" to go out of Thailand. About 200 western foreigners per day come to Kawthaung - paying 10 dollars to the Myanmar immigration. The Myanmar's earn two times the visa money now than before since Thailand only issues 2 week visas at border crossing. A stream of Thai people also is coming in to buy cheap cigarettes, cheap whisky and other stuff.
