Surprise!

Surprise!
Surprise, surprise! Meet BamBam and Pebbles. The farm wife called concerned about two tiny kittens out in the shed (I hunted all over and never found tiny kittens, but the shed has so many nooks and crannies it'd be nearly impossible to search it all). She suspected they belonged to Jewel, so the foster family brought them up to my place. Jewel hissed and growled and swatted and hissed some more, all the while her legs gathered up and protecting her belly. Opal's response? Roll on her back and try to nurse kittens. Of course, that didn't work. No milk. So these two kittens will be bottlefed. Not clear to us who the mother was. If Jewel were the one and only cat nursing the kittens, there's no way they would be alive on day three, let alone thriving. Someone was feeding them. With that said, we have made the decision to bottlefeed and hand-raise these two wee ones. The shed simply is not a safe environment for such tiny ones. Welcome, BamBam and Pebbles! And thank you to the farm wife for calling us. Warms my heart to have her call.

(The foster family named them BamBam and Pebbles which makes me feel better about naming the one I let back out there Gulliver. After all, the rest of the shed felines have at least some form of gem or the like in their names thanks to the foster family's brainstorming.)

What an excellent surprise! They are simply adorable! And so lucky to be out of there! However, there must be one more female out there (a very feral one) that probably flees the shed whenever someone comes. That seems to be the only explanation.

I would scoop these two up in a heartbeat, and would bottle feed them every 2 hours if that's what it took. Such sweet wee ones.
