I just posted an advertisement for wee Giselle. I use craigslist (and screen homes well). Unfortunately, the site is inundated with available critters, each one desperate for a loving home. Breaks my heart. The post for Heidi went to the front yesterday, but it is already behind hundreds of new posts. Wowsa, you only get a small window of opportunity to snag the attention of potential adopters. I truly hope that my husband can get us to be an established rescue so I can post elsewhere as well.

BTW, I do not like how ipernity changes the date taken when I try to put photos at the back of my stream to not clutter the front. I have a choice: (a) accept that photos end up with an inaccurate date (which bothers me for keeping track of the felines I rescue), (b) take an extra and cumbersome step of uploading the original to replace the photo once I change the date (which I have been doing but that is just too much for the 69 photos I put in the album belonging to these girls), or (c) flood the front of my stream with countless advertising photos. I have dialogued with ipernity folks, and my suggestion is "under consideration." I wanted to wait until I could establish a not-for-profit website, but I may end up abandoning both flickr and ipernity for my advertisement photos. I'll have to look into how challenging it would be for me to run a website dedicated specifically to our rescue efforts.

This is a beautiful shot of Giselle! It is too bad that there are so many cats and kittens that need homes. I am sure your beautiful photographs do give you a slight edge, as on our site that is similar to Craigslist (Kijiji) is similar with so many postings all the time. I see so many bad photos on there, often phone snaps, that I am sure in some cases it impedes an adoption for people on there. However, that being said, once your picture is buried, it is frustrating because you know it may not get seen by the right person.

I hate to say this, but I have also had some luck through facebook. We have local buy and sell as well as pet adoption groups which can increase the audience seeing your advertisements. Also, once in awhile, people on my friends list do express an interest in adopting, though in some cases they contact me to try to get me to take pets they no longer want - it's a double edged sword. (Not everyone on my friends list can see my cat rescue stuff - I have privacy settings for "cat people" and "not cat people")

Thanks, Fran. It makes me sad to see so many dark, blurry shots on craigslist. Many beautiful felines are passed over due to the lack of effort by the owner. I may actually make a facebook account and look around there. Potentially giving in to something I have deliberately avoided, sigh. But all in the name of finding warm, safe, loving homes for felines.

Jean, if you're ever interested in setting up a website, I use yahoo sitebuilder for the business. The cost is about $10 a month (and you can see my website and how many pictures I have, along with text), there are templates that can make life easier for building it, and I'd be happy to answer questions. I had NO website experience before I set it up, and I often get positive feedback from customers. You can set tag words so it comes up in the searches.

Thanks, Diane! I'm holding out on a website until Kevin at least finished the corporation part of the rescue. I'd like to be able to transition smoothly into a free non-profit webpage, and that would require ".net" to do. The longer this drags out, the more likely I am to take you up on the idea!
