Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM
What the reviewers have been saying is true. Looks like it kills the Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G (maybe even the Canon equivalent?) First few photos with this lens show extreme sharpness (even wide open) and seemingly is sharper than the Nikkor. The Nikkor that I tested was a rental, so perhaps it was at a disadvantage.

One point in favor of the Nikon is its weather sealing, which the Sigma apparently lacks. But the Nikon sells for $700+ more. The Sigma seems like a well built lens nevertheless. This is my first Sigma lens, and if that company can put out quality like this, it won't be my last. Time will tell if the Sigma is as reliable as my Nikkors have been.

I have a friend who is very fussy about his lenses, and he loves his Sigma lenses.

I was always hesitant about Sigmas. Too many QC stories. But it seems that under new leadership, they are forging ahead in new directions, and their newer products have been highly rated.
