On every full-moon day, thousands of pilgrims are walking barefoot around the holy mountain Arunachala. The distance of this "Giripradakshina" is 14 km. You can see the first pilgrims starting already as early as 3 o´clock in the morning, and the number increases throughout the whole day until the night, when so many people are on the road, that the road is even closed for the motor-traffic at some points. Arunachala is said to be the manifestation of Lord Shiva as a light-column.
