WIP Faux Feather Tree, Victorian Style

WIP Faux Feather Tree, Victorian Style
I couldn't help myself ... I went with a Victorian Christmas Tree theme because I want to have the tree displayed in Opal Joy's room box for when she arrives.

Starting at the top of the tree, I'm about half way through the decorating. When I'm finished, there will be 100 decorations on this tree; with the tree topper being number 100!

The color scheme is ivory, pink, mauve, burgundy, ruby, gold, peridot green, forest green and a dark opalescent teal.

The ornaments consist of gold bells with peridot green bows; gold charms in the shapes of fruits tied on with pink bows; pink, mauve and gold ribbon roses, ceramic poinsettias of palest pink and ivory; antique pearl beads with pale pink glass seed bead accents; jewel toned fancy glass beads with gold bead accents; antique opalescent dark teal glass beads with gold bead accents; picot edged pink satin ribbon streamers wrapped around faceted iridescent Christmas bead trim and double gold stars with peridot glass seed beads. Everything has been tied on with sewing thread that matches the tree.

I'm going to create a proper Victorian tree skirt to match and then I'll be done.

Beth has particularly liked this photo

It is looking wonderful so far, and by the sounds of it will be quite resplendent in all its decorations. Lucky Opal Joy!

Thank you so much, Balancing Kiwi! What I wanted to do was to create some reproductions of Victorian Christmas ornaments using Victorian scrap art, but I with the peripheral nerve problems I am having in my hands, I can't work that tiny. Instead, I've settled for the "feel" of a Victorian Christmas tree using color, texture and a little bling to convey the look. I am going to try to make a tree topper that is more authentic to the period, if I can.

I've been looking all over the internet for ideas and there are some gorgeous Victorian Christmas trees out there that are jam-packed with visual confections in cotton candy and spun sugar colors. I wish I could do them all!

You are doing amazingly well considering you have these peripheral nerve problems. I have have tingling and pain in my ring and little finger and chronic neuropathic pain all down my right arm, hand and side of body since surgery for TOS in 2008 and find doing tiny things so difficult, that your work always amazes and delights me.

Your tree is just so beautiful, Victoria! I envy your dolls this lovely tree...I'd like a grown-up one as lovely as this. You nailed the 'bling' perfectly :-)

Thank you, Balancing Kiwi, Beth and Regina. I hope to get back to finishing both tree and the sleeping loft of Opal Joy's room box in the next few days. She may be on her way to me by the end of the week!
