Taken on the area of the borough administration of Pankow/Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.

This site began as a hospital, was taken over by the Red Army and used by the Soviet secret service NKWD as a penitentiary consisting of 40 cells. During the GDR the secret police (Stasi) made use of it.
Thousands of people were imprisoned and tortured there.
Thanks to a citizens' initiative memorials called "Denkzeichen" (signs of thought/memory) by artist Karla Sachse can be found there today.

Bei der Geschichte dieses Bauwerks fröstelt's einen ja weitaus mehr, als man sich bei der schönen Architektur vorstellen möchte.
Kann man das jetzt besichtigen?

Das ist ein (zumindest zu Geschäftszeiten) vollkommen offenes und zugängliches Gelände, nicht zuletzt da dort die Bezirksverwaltung Pankow residiert und u. a. das Bürgeramt etc. hier zu finden ist.
Inzwischen werden hier längst wieder Alltagsverwaltungstätigkeiten ausgeführt.

Wie es mit der Besichtigung der Gebäude selbst ist, kann ich leider nicht sagen, allerdings kann man viele regulär betreten wie andere Amtsgebäude auch.

Ob der Haftkeller in Gebäude 3 (Nr. 5 ist z. B. heute das Bürgeramt) noch existiert, weiß ich leider ebensowenig.
Vielleicht reiche ich noch die eine oder andere Information nach, allerdings ist zumindest die Datenlage via Internet ziemlich dürftig.
