Thanks. This has been zoomed and cropped because I wanted it as banner. The other one is how it actually looked from the front of my boat.

Cropped like you suggest, it may work well here, but I'm using it on Facebook too, and there I need it wide - a large amount of pixels horizontally, I don't know how to explain it. Square pics tend to be distorted
The banner here is so narrow in any case that the black thingamabob disappears.

Besides, I'm not sure I like cutting the mountain in half. Thinking about it.

Yes, it's not easy to find a good picture for the banner here - I was going nuts the other day!

The suggested crop it would be just my personal preference: I could imagine this hanging on one of my walls! ;-)

It looks very good as you banner, btw!

It's so much FUN that we can make suggestions etc. in notes! Sharing photos is much more interesting here than on dead old Multiply.

I love your banner. Personally, I think sacrificing part of the mountain was worth getting rid of the thingamabob.

Good show onya!

@Barbara: yes, for a photo, you're right - except that I'm still thinking about the half mountain. On your wall? *blush*

@Lucija: On FB, my profile pic hides the thingamabob, and here it disappears.
I wish I could do like my graphic designer friend: sort of paint the thingamabob the same colour as the background, making it disappear. Perhaps I can mail the photo to him and ask him to edit it.

Thanks, both of you, for liking and advising.

This is a beautiful banner. You could have done the same with the thingamabob if you had Paint Shop. Or, so I understand. Personally, I haven't got it.

Thank you.
Oh, Sigurd, I've had a pro trying to teach me Photoshop. I've tried Picasa which is "Photoshop for dummies". I've looked at GIMP. I've tried I-forget-its-name that was said to be very simple - maybe Paint Shop. It's all hopeless. I see those "tools", and I give up. I can't use the net manuals because I don't know what things are called (why the heck don't they make them like a book with a list of content??). Well - some people can't do math. :)
I use Ipernity's photo editor for cropping and a few other simple operations, like exposure. Above that level, there's no fun, only frustration.

My banner and ther one on Elephant lovers were both from larger photos, I enlarged them to fit the require width on Ipernity, they then added the required frame so that I could select the part I wished to use.
I used the Smart sizing function in "Micrografx Picture Publisher 8" to do my part which allows me to change size by pixels, mm, cm, etc., I used pixels.

Hm, I know how to make photos smaller. I don't think I could enlarge mine very much without their becoming grainy. I just set the camera so that those I want as banners or background become big enough.
Yes, it frames that very narrow section - too narrow, in my opinion.

I know you're very good at all kinds of software.

Actually your original photo is already sized at 980 pixels wide so could be used.
I downloaded it and enlarged it even more without loss of clarity I will mail it to you if you give your address, see your Ipermail box

Yes, this is big enough, and I have some that are much bigger which were meant as page backgrounds, but we can't make that anymore. Maybe some day, somewhere.
