The Elder Brothers of the human race
The Kankuamos, Koguis, Arhuacos and Uiwas all live by the world's tallest coastal mountain range, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. They are our Elder Brothers, guardians of the equilibrium of the world. The Kogi Indians are the descendants of the ancient Tairona civilization of pre-Columbian America that vanished 400 years ago. For four centuries the Kogis have watched us from their mountain fastness. They call themselves the Elder Brothers of the human race, and are convinced that we, the Younger Brothers, will soon destroy the balance of life on earth. They believe that the only hope is for us to change our ways, and have set out to teach us what they know about nature and the spiritual world. Aluna is the Mother, whose law is harmony and balance. The whole of Kogi life revolves around this life force that shapes the world and makes it flower.
"...The world doesn’t have to end; it could go on; but unless we stop violating the earth and nature, depleting The Great Mother of her material energy, her organs, her vitality; unless people stop working against the great mother, the world will not last. "Up to now we have ignored the Younger Brother. We have not deigned even to give him a slap. But now we can no longer look after the world alone. The Younger Brother is doing too much damage. He must see, and understand, and assume responsibility. Now we will have to work together. Otherwise, the world will die."
