RC Helicopter

RC Helicopter
Last weekend, I was at a friend's house and mentioned that I wanted to add an aerial component to my video arsenal. I have been taking a preliminary look at different quadcopters onto which I can mount my GoPro Hero2 camera.

My buddy told me that he has an RC helicopter that he has never used. He suggested I learn to fly it, rig up a camera mount for the GoPro, and see if it would do the trick. And then he gave the helicopter to me on the spot. The only thing it did not come with is a battery charger.

So I have a 5-phase plan:

Phase 1 (Today) - Go to the hobby store in Colorado Springs and get an appropriate battery charger. Then hook the battery up to start charging.

Phase 2 (Tomorrow and on) - Learn to fly the helicopter. My friend also gave me a training skid set. I've been through a bunch of YouTube videos to learn how to fly without turning the thing on its top.

Phase 3 (At the close of Phase 2) - Rig a camera mount to the bottom of the helicopter, being very careful to maintain proper balance.

Phase 4 (Most likely immediately following Phase 3) - Put the camera on the rig and see how it works, especially seeing how the additional weight affects battery life.

Phase 5 (When appropriate) - Put aerial video into the arsenal.

So I'm off to the hobby store! Wish me luck.
