btw, i've seen a book about Tuva and HIV problem there. sounds even grimmer and it's really nothing one can do about that really.

There are many really poor people who cannot afford doctors...so they become prey to these quacks who offer dodgy "cures"......

people need hope to live, even if it's a lie they still will catch that straw, because they have hope...

True...but these quacks try to swindle the last bit of money from poor and desperate people for their useless remedies...which is unethical..l

it's happening everywhere, the poorer and more desperate target, the better for those swindlers. and when religion is mixed to that... bah! :-/
