Macro Mondays - finger

For Macro Mondays #353, 18/3/24, "Finger". The little finger of my left hand. Getting this required what I can best describe as gymnastics! Happy Monday Macro, everyone.

Bundanoon Station - going north

A few weeks ago I posted an image of the southbound side of Bundanoon Station. This is looking across the tracks to the northbound platform, where you would catch the train to Sydney. Maybe the sign at right fits well with my most recently posted image! Wishing everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Unwanted excitement

This afternoon, when my little terrier was very keen to go outside I looked tthrough the glass door and saw this Redbellied Black snake passing by. When it was heading away from the house I took these images. See also PiPs. The joys of living in a semi-rural area! Redbellies are venemous but not deadly to humans, but are the main cause of canine snakebite, so I hope my terrier doesn't see another when I'm not around!

WF2 radar

Copied from an old 1965 slide. This WF2 (WF short for Wind Finding) radar was in a suburb of Melbourne not far from Essendon Airport. It was used to train people such as me and had a range of 200km. I find myself thinking how inappropriate it would now be considered to have such a potentially dangerous beast so close to houses, with just a fence (seen best viewed large) between. In the PiP, a weather balloon launched from the same site, with (from the top) the 350gm balloon, a parachute, the radar reflector and the radiosonde to send back atmospheric data. Happy Fence Friday and have a good weekend, everyone.

What's the criterion?

The Criterion Hotel was built in Braidwood in 1870. It was restored some years ago and is heritage listed - but it could be suggested that another restoration is due! I think most of this damage was caused when masses of ivy were removed a few years ago. Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.

Bundanoon Station

When the railway from Sydney reached Bundanoon in 1868, the Southern Highlands (cooler because of the height) became a popular destination during summers. The station is now heritage listed and these buildings (on the southbound side) date from 1910. Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.

Eastern Water Skink

This skink lizard was about 300mm (1ft) long. When I double checked my identification of it, I was surprised to find there are over 325 skink species in Australia! The strange lighting effect (most visible in the PiP) is reflected light from a window.
