Dune erosion

Dune erosion
The dunes at our local beach are gradually but steadily being eroded. This is entirely consistent with what is expected due to rising sea levels associated with climate change. The causes are melting ice from glaciers and ice caps, plus expansion of the ocean water as its temperature rises. As explained in this link, ocean levels have risen by about 25cm since 1880 and the rate has increased to about 3cm a decade now. No wonder the people on low-lying islands are concerned!

Fabulous capture! Sadly the case of climate change. Where I live in NY, the high tide always sweeps some three or more feet past the retaining walls built a century ago thanks to rising sea levels. I feel especially bad for the island nations that have lack high ground. Stay well!

An interesting image and a subject which should concern us all. It is a terrible inevitability that the low-lying island nations will someday lose their homes. I can only bear to keep up with this news once in a rare while before plunging my head under the sand again. It's horrible to be so helpless and unfair to oneself to dwell on the miserable things in the world. So, I'm aware but don't spend too much time because it's so awful. :(

Really horrible and worrying, George, not the photo,
but the consequences of the generally irresponsible treatment of nature.
