Remembrance Day centenary ...

Remembrance Day centenary ...
Some of the knitted poppies outside the Australian National War Memorial, commemorating Australians lost in WW1. But a far larger number of survivors carried scars for life. Lest we forget, indeed - but have we learned? Here's a relevant musical link. Stitched panorama, best viewed large.

Lian, Gudrun, Diane Putnam, and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

And the war itself was catastrophic. It led directly to the Second World War and a further 50 million deaths. And that led further. Of course we should honour the soldiers who died, and the veterans, but we will not learn anything until we pay attention to why all those men and women had to die.

A very beautiful and moving tribute with this sea of poppies and the song you have added George. So many lives lost and so many others affected

With all my respects for all soldiers sacrified in that war on both sides of the front and specially for our portuguese “lanzudos”.
Getting to know each other beyond borders and treat our differences with respect and tolerance will prevent this to happen again.

Many thanks for all your kind comments and 'stars' on this, everyone. As I said in my original notes, let's hope we not only do not forget but also have learned!

A magnificent display, so touching to think of all the people - I suppose mostly women - who made them. Well, I don't have much faith that we've learned here in the USA.

Thank you, Diane. Yes, I'd say it was mostly women who made them - my wife and my cousins did some. Sadly, all too often some in high positions seem to see benefits in drum beating .....
