White-headed pigeon

White-headed pigeon
These are native to the eastern coast of Australia. This particular one apparently has done something to its beak (it also has a growth near the base of it), the beaks normally are similar in shape to those of other pigeons. Still, it makes this bird more identifiable, so I know it is a regular visitor to the feed bowl (see note).

Explored.

IIRC the Columbidae (doves & pigeons) _evolved_ in Australia, spreading from there to the rest of the world!

Fantastic close up of this lovely bird and I also love the very fitting dark background that makes the bird pop out of the picture. The second photo in the note is very beautiful as well. This bird really looks very similar to our pigeons and it doesn't look to be very shy...lovely visitor. Sorry for not having shown up lately...I had a summer flu (that's what my m.d. called it).

Interesting that the damage to the beak doesn't prevent it from eating, though perhaps it's on that account you see it at the feeding bowl. Beautiful bird and photos.

Hi Tiabunna

Very nice picture, very well taken.
In England it is very common for pigeons to sustain damage such as loss of toes, etc. This is the life of a city scavenger.. They still seem to survive!

Best Wishes, and a good weekend.
