Satellites

The brighter trail is the International Space Station, as it dims when heading into the earth's shadow. Viewed large it may be possible to see the trails of five other satellites. Those two light blurs are the Magellanic Clouds, themselves small satellite galaxies to the Milky Way.

Breathtaking !

I sit in here with just a small lamp on. I blew this up to black full screen and switched my lamp out !

Stunning !

Remarkable! You awake awe in me, George. I most often look at small things. Even with th photo enlarged to full size, I can only see three other satellites though.

Thanks, Amelia. I'll guess you found the three satellites to the right. If you take a line from the ISS to a point above the large Magellenic Cloud you should see another long faint one pointing down. The other is near the foot of the image almost straight below.

Fantastic! It's getting crowded up there, I found all five;-) I'm quite proud I managed to recognize the Magellanic clouds before reading your decription.

Thanks, Gudrun. Well spotted. I find it fascinating how many satellites show in astro images like this - "space junk" is indeed becoming a real problem I fear.

Ahh the delights of the sort of camera I'd like to have. Will you be getting up at 3am to see the meteor shower tonight.

Thanks, Graham. No, I probably should, but I find my bed too comfortable. Update: just looked outside and I have a good excuse - it's cloudy. :-)

Absolutely Brilliant Capture. The 3 Trails are easy to see. Looked into the largest view-able and see the 2 more trails although faint at the bottom of the image.. Again Brilliant. Well done George. Regards Tess.
