I've noticed this one, thought it ought to be recorded but have never stopped. Thanks for doing so.

Some phone boxes are acquiring a new reason for being as WiFi points as part of the global network operated by Fon.

Thanks for the feedback, Graham, also for the links. I hadn't heard anything of Telstra updating the phone boxes for wifi, but recently saw it has been done in New Zealand. let's hope this one lasts.

Cool! I like phone boxes in the middle of nowhere:-) Glad to see they still exist!

There are not many though, Gudrun. Maybe I should look out for more when out with my camera. :-)

So lonely... Does it still work?

tiabunna club has replied to Lian
I didn't try it Lian, but it looked operational and I noticed the grass in front of it had been mowed (though there was no worn path to the door).

This is one way to prevent vandalism, I guess. Excellent composition.

Thanks, John. I suspect vandalism is the least of the problems for fixed public phones.

Top shot George!
Given Telstra's generally dodgy service around home (and major outages lately) We might begin to see even more of these again?

tiabunna club has replied to just"jj"
Thanks, Judith, it certainly can be patchy relying on a mobile. I'd love to see these stay, but I suspect that cost cutting has more priority...

We depend on our land line here as cell reception is bad to non exisitent. The service providers are finally beginning to realise that.

tiabunna club has replied to Pam J club
The mobile coverage where I live is also very patchy, Pam (my mobile works in only one room, but with my previous phone I had to stand outside). The phone companies like to tell us that 98% of the population has mobile phone coverage, but that realistically means just the urban areas and main roads.

Thank you, Jaap. I didn't try it, but I think it was still working (and someone had cut the grass to the door).
