Before the races

Before the races
Camel racing is held annually at Easter in Forbes, where we had our old car gathering. Too good to pass, we had to be there (as were a great many local people, see note). Best viewed large. Explored.

, Gillian Everett, , Annemarie and 18 other people have particularly liked this photo

This looks like great fun! Weren't camels brought into Australia in the early days and used for exploration?
tiabunna club has replied to RHH
Thanks, Ron. They were brought in as transport in the desert areas in the 1860s and were also used by explorers. Still used until trucks took over in the 1920s when most were released - there now are millions as feral pests in the centre.

Love those colorful blankets! Think I'd rather ride a horse, though.

Goodness, camel racing! Love the way they look and the colourful blankets. The spectators look very relaxed- no dress code like at Ascot;-)

See my next image for the answer, Pam. Surprisingly, I saw a team at work out in the centre as late as 1970.
