Through the Fern Forest

Through the Fern Forest
A walking path in a forest reserve near on the west coast of Tasmania. Incredibly, the new Australian government has requested that 74,000 hectares of Tasmanian forest with World Heritage listing whc.unesco.org/en/list/181 be removed from the listing and made available for forestry.

o0o made available for forestry I am amazed ... and I hope it does not happen,
but I suspect as here and everywhere these decisions are made for the wrong
reasons ultimately but will happen no doubt. I love to see these wonderful
tree ferns ... and indeed we do see them in our garden centres, small of course
and they are enjoyed very much indeed ... but you need them growing where
they are now and not removed ... always there seems to be big problems
when trees of any kind are removed grand scale .. I hope they rethink and
love your walk amongst these ... how lovely to be there oOo

Thank you, Bev. Yes, does indeed seem to be for the wrong reasons - and, I gather, the first time ever that any government has asked for removal from World Heritage listing! But it's all a remarkable area to visit. :)

Very good focus - razor sharp from immediate foreground to back. Not everyone knows how to achieve this!!

The only dinosaur was behind the camera. :)) But yes, these fern forests go back to the Jurassic times when dinos roamed around Gondwana.

Let's hope the government's request is denied, because places like this are special. Well taken, George.

It looks quite amazing! Can't believe anyone would want to destroy it!

It is indeed, Ian. There have been arguments for years over logging in Tasmania between environmentalists and forestry. The previous gov't finally arranged an agreed outcome, but the new gov't is busily reversing everything they did. There is no need.

I can't believe either that any government would allow this to be destroyed, but ours does the same. Beautiful!

Thanks for your comment, Ron. As I understand it, this is the first ever request from any country to have any World Heritage delisted!

Thanks, Bev. Yes, I think these tree ferns are very much relics of Gondwana and essentially restricted to the Southern Hemisphere.

Are they available there? I'd suspect it might survive your climate.

yes I believe they are at great expense ;-) and they advise
that they are wrapped in sacking during the winter months !
