Crowberries (Empetrum nigrum subsp. hermaphroditum) at Ruka fjell

Crowberries (Empetrum nigrum subsp. hermaphroditum) at Ruka fjell
Not for everyone, crowberries, but I like to snack on them while walking the trails. The taste is tart and light but not nearly as tart as cranberries or lingonberries. Nor is the taste as sweet as bilberries. One way to use crowberries is to make crowberry juice but the taste doesn't suit everyone's fancy. I enjoyed it though others said it tasted like forest or pine needles.

But I only like fresh pressed sugar free Crowberry juice as it tastes like the berries themselves. When crowberries are made into juice with a steam juicer, the result is - in my humble opinion - awful. The fresh taste is lost and what used to taste like berries now tastes only like sugared water. Also, the aftertaste resembling pine needles or peat gets really strong. I bought one bottle of commercially produced crowberry juice and couldn't manage more than three sips.
