The Tourist and Edith Cavell

The Tourist and Edith Cavell
Standard tourist shot, but I have been playing around with it in Photoshop to emphasize the statue itself and the inscriptions on the backing block and especially the quote on the plinth. "Patriotism is not enough." This is the quote - Cavell's last words - that a committee of people led by George Bernard Shaw, finally managed to shame the British government into adding to the statue, turning what had been a monument of patriotic hypocrisy and anti-German rhetoric into a true reflection of Cavell's response to the insanity of the First World War.
