Actually Jenny this was the first major experience during my 2008 holiday in Japan, eight day later I found myself equally far beneath the surface of the earth in the Gyokosendo Caves of Okinawa.

When these volcanoes erupt it reminds us of the incredible forces and activity taking place deep in the earth.

Very true Frank, on the way up while still able to drive the car we passed a reiver and suddenly a huge jet os scalding hot water shot up from the middle of the river, we could not stop to photograph which was a shame but that's life, wecan't have it all.
