only the western vestibules remain much as soane built them in 1826, though even here the victorians couldn't help themselves, but added unsuitable tracery to the windows in 1870

soane's west front is the least altered part of his 1826 church, it was designed to have a taller tower, but financial considerations lopped one storey off. the window tracery is an addition of 1870, and all of soane's pinnacles were shortened or removed before 1849 . a considerable amount of restoration and refacing of stonework is going on at present: it's a pity that there is no will or money to return the church to soane's design.
