south transept triforium, 1177-1088. the banded columns show superficial similarity to saxon baluster shafts, and have been claimed as being spoil from an earlier church. however, they look to be made from the same caen stone as the obviously norman capitals, and appear lathe cut , lacking the bulges of saxon work
