st.mary's new church stoke newington, london

st.mary's new church stoke newington, london
the new church built in 1854-8 by g.g.scott has deeply cut naturalistic capitals on the tall columns dividing the nave and aisles of this hall church, built barn-like to cope with the huge crowds attracted by the eloquence of the rector, thomas jackson, in the mid c19. burned out in the war, the interior can seem a little bleak, and the roofs are definitely a bit thin after the promise of the spire and capitals.
