Oor Wee Yin's Banter

Oor Wee Yin's Banter
One of Scotland's most famous comic book characters has been transformed as part of a charity art trail. Oor Wullie, the loveable scamp often found causing trouble in his hometown of Auchenshoogle, has been given a makeover. Quoted from the STV website.

Created by Rachael Tidmore

Oor Wee Yin's Banter on the Oor Wullie's Big Bucket Trail website

Capping the [Duke of Wellington] statue with a traffic cone has become a traditional practice in the city [of Glasgow], claimed to represent the humour of the local population and believed to date back to the first half of the 1980s, if not before. Quoted from Wikipedia.

A lot in this shot to make one smile Joe! Sadly I haven't heard of oor Wullie. Did you read the comic and which one was it in? An interesting and well taken shot. Cheers, Rosa.

Wellington wouldn't be amused about it, but it's kind of funny. The Scots have a sense of humour anyway and they practice it, I think it's very good. Maybe it's still revenge for 1746 to attack English politicians at every level. You don't know.
It's funny in any case, in Germany you have mostly lost this humor.

Oor Wullie's hair used to be a lot spikier, Joe, and the bucket was a lot plainer than this. He hasn't aged well at all. There will soon be a shortage of traffic cones around this area of Scotland. LOL

There is no shortage of Oor Wullie statues in the city centre, Amelia. They are all over the place. Thanks for your very kind comment. Cheers, Joe

Glad to see Wellington still has his hat. I worked in what is now the Museum of Modern Art in the late fifties, early sixties and I remember Wellington intermittently had a traffic cone then.

I can't remember the first time I saw a cone of the Duke's head, Jean. It seems like they have allways been there. Cheers, Joe

I like this, definitely a sense of humour though I'd not previously heard of the cartoon.
