Dragonfly that stayed a while
There were many dragonflies as well though they flew mostly when the sun was out. This one lighted on a reed in front of me and allowed me both close and endured proximity
While I haven't an ID for this one, I do have a number of shots as he obliged for a good while.
Flower of the Green Pitcher Plant
Damselfly and a Sundew
Little did I realize there was a gruesome back drop in another photo of this. The remains of a previous damselfly lay still within the grasp of the nearby sundew.
White Pitcher Plants
These are my favorite of the three types we saw on this outing, white pitcher plants. Greens, Whites and Purples were all there.
Amazing plants for one who has never seen them before.
A pair of hunters
A Crab Spider near the lid of a Green Pitcher Plant. These spiders seem to have found a home that works well for themselves but have a habit of hiding around the back of the plant when you'd like them to smile for the photo!
Everyone has a trigger
Venus fly-traps found at a bog my father-in-law took me to see. The trigger hairs are clearly visible. Amazing plants.
Runaway found
This fella flew across the path in front of me and i guessed and hoped and got him while hiding out in the hollow of a tree on the other side of the path. I couldn't see him so this was a pleasant surprise. I would believe him to be a northern red-legged frog.
Fungus hanging out
The night before the Blood Moon
Just thought I would grab a quick picture the night before we had the blood moon. Unfortunately I do not have the zoom nor the resolution to really take advantage of the clear night. This is a heavy crop.
Just can't leave Shuksan alone.
The Family Hanging Out
A group of mushrooms found along the trail on a hike taken with my father in law this past christmas near Anacortes
The Father Madrone
Described as one of the most impressive Madrones my Father-in-Law has seen, I would simply have to agree. When you come across this particular spot it sort of captivates you.
Unidentified Fungus
Another beautiful fungus found along the trail on a hike that my Father in law was kind enough to take me on.
Orange Jelly Fungus
While I lack the more appropriate name for this fungus I found it very interesting. We found several fallen trees where it had grown into every crevice of the bark. I regret not getting a picture of that.
Unidentified Fungus
Another amazing fungus found growing on bark tucked alongside a fallen log on a hike my father in law and I took this Christmas past.
Black and White Mushrooms
This is a simple black and white process of another shot which I will post as well. I admit I have somewhat fallen in love with the different take that black and white provides. It seems to force the focus more to light and shape and contrast. A welcome and challenging difference.
Weather Blasted
A particularly worn and weathered tree up on the bluffs along the coast near Anacortes.
Blackened
A simple black and white version of another photo I've uploaded. Sometimes I'm drawn more to the black and white versions than the color. I'm not sure I can decide.
