It reminds me of a story I read when I was a kid. A poor man was dressing expensively, and people commented: how can you do that? He replied that he was poor and could not afford buying cheap stuff that would deteriorate within a year.

How interesting! Expensive used to mean really well-crafted. I wonder if it still means that?

Thanks, Nicolas!

It's harder to gauge these days. But I feel sure in some categories, it's still true that expensive means well-made. I like to hope so, anyway.

Some of us (me) would benefit from eliminating the face part of the equation. :)

:) I had the same feeling. I'm not sure dressing right is going to help me much.

Thanks Dave!

Well I've always thought being a farmer is pretty cool. My grandfather was an 80% retired farmer while I was growing up. I guess that's what made it look like a fun way to make a living. :)

Thanks, Fantasyfan!

And, of course, in the early 80s we had "Dress for Success." A company I worked for actually recommended the book to the staff. Of course, they went belly-up 25 years ago--

Oh my. The sound of that phrase still raises hackles, doesn't it?

Thanks, slgwv!
