Do they still have public phones -- phone booths -- where you are? I saw my first one in years just the other day, and of course, it was the booth only -- without any phone hooked up in it. I miss public phones.

They still exist here and there. There's one (1!) in the Wal-Mart in Carson City. I remember hearing that when Hurricane Sandy hit NYC, the only phone service was from pay phones (the handful still left) because so many cell towers had been knocked down, and the service was overloaded anyway.

Well there you go. That story scares. I keep wondering if there could be a scenario in which the disappearance of the public phone system comes back to bite us. That sounds like it.
