A heart wounded but standing, those phones do such a job nowadays... I agree with Dan for the exif, one should always show them, it is a way to learn from others exifs, many times I ask f9r them in private.

The phone manufacturers have done a great job to implement good quality lenses and sensors on such a small size. Best phones at the market provide huge resolution and well implemented software to make it possible to zoom digitally. For example on my phone there is 20 MP sensor, BUT it also gives an option to shoot in 8 MP quality. In practice it means the camera allows pretty good 8 MP quality even up to 2 times digital zoom.

Digital zooming in my case is pretty important because it allows to crop the image already on the camera, and therefore makes it possible to get rid of the "mechanical vignetting". For example the 180 degree fisheye lens I have, gives full circle image. But I prefer to have corner to corner fisheye view, and then 2 times digital zoom makes this possible. As a result I still get 8 MP image with pretty good quality.

Moreover, the sensors has became much more noiseless during past years, making it possible to get rather good images even in dark.

As good or even better than many cameras... will it be camera’s death in a future? We will see....

There are still number of limitations what most of the camera phones can't do. One very essential is the aperture. Although a fixed one size only aperture is physically small, thus providing rather extensive depth of field, it is not the case on macro photography.

Moreover, the physically small sensor, short focal length and small aperture means there is no way to get nice telescopic shots with blurry background. One can of course also get telescopic clip on lenses, but they are much more expensive, and really not the same as on real cameras with physically bigger lenses and adjustable apertures.

Last summer I was lucky to get a Canon G5 X "bridge camera" with "one inch" sensor, and it is just marvelous when shooting in really dark or otherwise difficult situations. A great dynamic range and advantages of full manual features (including a good range of aperture values) is what any photographer wants when taking the hobby on to the next level.

And of course DSLR cameras are even better ;-) They just aren't very compact and mobile =P
