Finnish sports, bicycle throwing

Love the light and the colours in this shot Sami though strangely I'd not heard of this particular Finnish pastime! ;)

Well, to be honest, I guess it is an international "sports" or "hobby" ;-)

But as I pointed out on my reply to Paul, in Amsterdam they push even cars into canals! That surely pollutes the water =(

Bikes, shopping trolleys and a lot of other things end up in the river here.

In this case the bike could be saved if taken out of the water soon. It is in the river (rapids), aka sweet water, and therefore no risk of getting rusty. However, there's something like three meters down from the sidewalk, therefore it should be lifted by some city workers.

Yes, it of course makes me angry as well =( Although, there is a chance some people do this just because they are angry or frustrated somehow. And even whey do this "for fun", they obviously have not found any better way to channel their energy and skills. So, this makes me feel myself also very very sad.... ='(

Is Finland trying to get this sport into the Olympics? Should I start training? Can I train here, or do I need to go to Finland?

Good idea! =) There are three things to take into account:

1) Source of water. Water jump used for steeplechase would work just fine! =D
2) Throwing someone else's bicycle. All the athletes bring their own bicycle. All of them are placed on the bicycle rack next to water jump. Then athlete has to pick someone elses bicycle when comes her/his turn.
3) Getting drunk. Well, using alcohol would be doping. So, maybe a merry-go-round would do the task.

And the sports goes for example like this. 1 minute with predefined rpm spent on the merry-go-round. Then 1 minute time to take someone else's bicycle and throw it into the water jump pool. Who gets the shortest time, will win!
