Guess what? I

Guess what? I
EDIT 19.3.2015: A new one to be solved at group Rätselecke - Puzzle corner - Coin énigmatique. Like you see, this picture I uploaded already some time ago. So, there are few guesses and tips already. This is actually quite a useful item.

Do notice I also added the answer onto my previous contribution: www.ipernity.com/doc/serola/28645423/in/group/1387946

EDIT 21.3.2015: SOLVED! Conggratulations Cammino!

It is called as "milk watcher" (milchwächter, anti-monte-lait):
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_watcher
de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milchwächter
fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-monte-lait

When the liquid starts to boil, this disk starts to tremble on bottom of the kettle, making a loud noise. So, especially useful when heating milk. Not often used these days though. Here how it looks when boiling water:

j'y jouais avec mon père quand j'étais enfant....

I totally rely on Google translate here =D If you meant there is some sort of a game like Chess in the picture, then that is incorrect.

Here's a hint. Biscotte was on right track when mentioned a cow ;-)

Yes I thought it was a piece of some sort of chess game...... but it is not
very very very strange !!!

Next hint: It is used in the kitchen ;-)

Nylonbleu has replied to Sami Serola
In the kitchen ? I'm thinking about it, but I do not got such thing in my kitchen.....or ?.....

I think this has become a very rare kitchen tool these days. Although, I have seen them sold on internet, which I discovered when I tried to find the name in English for this.

Next hint: The spiral is merely just decorative. It does not affect on the use of it, or at least not much, I think.

would it be a plate to put butter or cheese ?

Sami Serola has replied to Nylonbleu
Nope, it is nothing like that either.

Which function has the whole? Is it for a drinking straw?
Sami Serola has replied to Martin H.
You mean the hole? I'm not sure but I think it is there to make it easier to pick it after use. However, the hole is not necessary for the use of this item. I have seen similar ones without a hole.

Yes, I meant the hole :-)
Maybe it is a cover for a drinking glass?
Sami Serola has replied to Martin H.
No, it is not a cover of any sort. I also checked the pictures of similar items, and it actually possible the hole makes this to work more smoothly.

Very difficult ... when you don't use it to cover something... maybe it's a trivet...
Sami Serola has replied to Martin H.
No, not a trivet. Nothing to be but over or under. It is actually put into something.
Martin H. has replied to Sami Serola
And the hole makes it work more smoothly, because a liquid flows through it?
Sami Serola has replied to Martin H.
Yes, that is correct.

Well, in a way... But only for certain type of cooking, boiling something... It is not a clock! It is made out ceramic. One piece only. No moving parts...

One last tip for today: So, this is needed when boiling something. And this prevents from burning and overcooking it by making an alarming sound.
