Winterday - Parc de l'Orangerie, Strasbourg, Alsace, France - 2010-12-27_848

Winterday - Parc de l'Orangerie, Strasbourg, Alsace, France - 2010-12-27_848
The "Orangerie" (full name: Parc de l'Orangerie) is a 26 hectares wide square in Strasbourg wich hosts also a small but amazing zoo.

There are dozens of sedentarized storks living here... which are an actually annoyance for the more then wealthy people living around. It is the snobiest quarter for living in Strasbourg (*) although the garden itself is a very popular place: it's traditional for sunday afternoon family walks, there are also various playing grounds for children. Candies-and-ice sellers make a fortune here...

In the background: the "Pavillon Joséphine" wich was actually a winter garden in the past, so the second name "Orangerie" and the square's name. It burnt in the sixties, was identically rebuilt and today it is used as ballroom or art showroom, for conferences and so on.

The Pavillon Joséphine and later the whole square were classified as french national heritage sites.

The bronze represents Pierre Pflimlin, who was mayor of Strasbourg from 1959 to 1983. He called the Général de Gaulle in 1958 as equivalent to Premier Ministre in our fourth Constitution. He was also President of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1987.

One has to say that all here is extremely well-kept and no year shows the same floral deco than the precedent.

(*) Forgive me: the costliest one...
