I was thinking "Christmas lights? Already?" and then saw the date the photo was taken. So in fact they're a bit late. :) :) Over here most trees are taken down well before the end of December, gathered and burnt on New Year's Eve. Those are huge fires (the fire brigade always standing by)! :)
This is a very nice night shot.

Traditional in the south of Germany for private people and saecular public is any time between Dec. 27 (first Workday after Christmas) and Feb. 2 ( Candlemass), when ever the evergreens start to loose needles or power bills and technical issues cause debate. Catholic churches hold the decoration until Candlemass, but lutheran do only to Jan. 6 (Epiphanias, Three Kings). This is traditional and not in any way a matter of commerce.
Commercial it is rather to throw out any shop christmas decorations on Dez 27. and replace it with goudy years symbols as the pig and the chimney sweep because of the next day the legal sale of fireworks starts and the store needs at once to peddle different table deco and all stuff needed for a wilder and simpler kind of party as christmas suggests. Fondue, chips and appetizers, lots of alcohol, confetti and party hats, fortune telling party games.....
Special bonfire that includes collected old christmas trees and similar rough hedgecut along with other untreated wood items as a fun event is in some areas done, but much later in the year, like a Funken at the first lent sunday or a Johanni Fire in summer. New Years Night is celebrated with fireworks.

In Alsace and by our German neighbours these lignts mostly stay until middle January. I guess that's a matter of tourism...

For example, when I was a kid, the (to day) world famous Christmas Market of Strasbourg began at Skt-Nicklaus (06/12) and closed at 24/12 eve, period. To day some lanes close 24/12 but most 31/12, and some 6/01. And it begins end of November.

I know nordic countries are more respectful of traditions.

Thanks for your appreciation.
