My father, Don Kimrey, worked in the late 1970's and early 1980's to raise awareness and funds for the Autistic Society. He organized celebrity softball games and I got to be bat boy for the NASCAR team back when Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty were still racing. Richard Petty ate all of my popcorn, but I didn't care. He was king of the track back when I had not yet grown out of my fondness for cars that drive really fast in circles.
Here he is playing around with Curly Neal during a autism awareness commercial that Curly was filming. I was a huge Globetrotter fan as a kid. I had tons of books and watched the cartoon - meeting these guys made me feel like the coolest kid in the world. I got to meet some of the other guys on the team, but meeting Curly and getting to play a few minutes of basketball with him was the best.
