Accident at lunch hour

Accident at lunch hour
I paused on my way to work today in front of the Cathedral of Turku to shoot a flower exhibition, had been home for lunch. Then a police car sirens blazing passed by and I thought now I have the opportunity to photograph it getting stuck in traffic in the next intersection (people are rather thick headed when it comes to vehicles of the emergency services around here). It paused and went to the scene of an accident, a young woman had been run over by a car. The driver was a 18-20 year old woman.

Here the rescue & medical crew is preparing to put an inflatable mat under the victim in preparation for evacuating her to the nearby university hospital after her condition was stabilized.

Traffic in Turku is appalling.

EDIT: the newspaper informed today (the day after) that the driver was 18 and the victim 17 years old. Another car had stopped in the four lane road (two per direction) to let the 17-year over the pedestrian crossing while the 18-old in another lane ignored the rule that one should also stop in such a situation, leading to the accident. The incident is being investigated as an aggravated traffic violation (rough translation) or such. The newspaper wrote that the incident happened at 12:45, was closer to 13:00 as people would have immidiately phoned it in with the police arriving on scene first, followed by an ambulance and a first-response medical doctor car and lastly a fire truck.

This one is not licensed under a CC license, lest some vile, putrid evening tabloids might possibly be able to print it. The victim has been cropped out, I'm not going to publish such photos.
