Tourism office, Jävre

Tourism office, Jävre
This period piece is Jävre tourist station, designed by Gunnar Lehtipalo. It consists of a cuboid main block sheathed in coloured corrugated iron, resting on a reinforced concrete arch.

The building opened in 1967 as a tourism gateway to Norrbotten in northern Sweden and has since been restored. It sits alongside the E4 arterial route and opposite Jävre bay (where the Skags Fyr lighthouse was installed). Inside the centre is a museum to the 1960s, including this gleaming Ford Anglia.

Adjoining the building is a restplats for cars and motorhomes, with some shops a short walk away. It’s also the start of an archaeology trail around some Stone Age barrows further inland.

Jävre, Piteå, Norrbotten, Sweden.
