East Beach Café

East Beach Café
Built in 2007 to the design of Thomas Heatherwick and modelled on a piece of driftwood. The main external material is pre-rusted mild steel. Details of the café are here.

I photographed the building again in 2014. See here.

Littlehampton, West Sussex. Nikon D300.

Nice concept and very artistic... but I prefer traditional cheerful seaside architecture!

Thanks, all.

Rhisiart -- I'll put a picture of the West Beach Café on here in a day or so. I think you'll like that.

Gillie -- it's away from the centre, so easy to miss. I knew it was there and made a beeline for it.

Definitely a good conversation piece but I think the jury is still out.

Thanks, Fotoamateur.

It's won several local and national awards, so it's safe to say the juries have returned their verdicts. 8=)

Pre-rusted? Couldn't they wait to see what the sea air would do?

I got a few of that, too. They've made themselves.a nice bit of seafront along there.
