Alexandra road Aldershot- now that is a memory shaker. Whilst working as a surveyor in the very early 70's I stayed at a right doss house for about 9 months at no. 47 Alexandra Road and spent most evenings at the Alexandra Arms ( may have got the name wrong- sure it is gone now ). For the last 3 months of the survey could not stand the no 47 any more so stayed at what was then Trevenna House Hotel out on the Alton Road. To fix the date , we were there when the IRA bombed the Officer's Mess. The job was a total survey of Aldershot Military Town , been back once or twice, hardly recognise it all now.
Thanks Roger for that trip down memory lane.

I well remember the Officer's Mess incident; I was based at the local BDP offices, Union Buildings, on Hospital Hill, during the Military Town development from the mid sixties right up until the close of the development contracts. I guess you are aware that the buildings of Stanhope Lines and Maida Barracks have now been demolished during the redevelopment for housing? The old Union Buildings have also been sold off and are now being converted to apartments.
