A lovely pair of shots Rosa, both are equally good. I like the perspective and fine light on this impressive building and the fact that the autumn colour of the leaves is mirrored by the stone of the house. I have never seen the twist in the trunk before is, thanks for posting.

Rosa.............your main image is absolutely gorgeous. The light, colours and detail are all spot on, and the composition is superb. I've seen lots of Sweet Chestnut trees, but only fairly young ones and none have had a trunk anything like this one. I wonder how old it is?

The mansion in the PiP is really attractive...........the light has brought out the lovely colour in the stonework. I like you composition too.........and the fallen leaves either side of the pathway,

There is a catalogue of the trees in Stourhead, so I will have to see if one exists for Montacute. I think it's quite old, but I would love to know when it was planted. Some of the younger trees have started to twist slightly.

I would have loved to go inside, but I had Luna with me. If you are ever that way, it's a great house to look around. Thank you for your kind comments on both shots.

It's a lovely village Andy, and it has great walks all around it. There is one very steep walk that is worth visiting in the spring, as it's full of bluebells and had great views from the top.
