Pub closed and no Phone.

Pub closed and no Phone.
Last November the telephone in the red kiosk was removed and replaced with a defibrillator, and it has already been used twice.

Good morning Rosalyn has the pub closed or just for the restrictions ? it seems a popular use for the old phone boxes I have also seen a couple of mini libraries, a grey day but hopefully warm enough to keep melting the snow/ice enjoy your day

Good morning Peter. Not sure about the pub. It used to be very well used, but a change of owner seemed to change everything! He has asked for planning permission for conversion to dwellings, so don't know yet! Yes, I have seen many mini libraries in the old phone boxes. Snow almost gone here now. Keep warm and have a good day.

I love these old red telephone boxes, Rosa. I remember the days of 'push button A', and push 'button B'. LOL. Cheers, Joe

I can remember when these were commonplace...........but not so much nowadays, but it's always nice to see one, especially in a "traditional" village like this, even though it's being used for something else.

Shame about the pub though............there have been hundreds of country pubs closed over the past few year, even before the pandemic.

This is a lovely image Roas......very nicely taken!

Me too Keith. Big heavy doors on some of them, but made good use of by me before my parents had a phone!

The pub was popular for years, but I have my doubts on it reopening as a pub! I hope I am wrong though....with new owners!

Thank you for your kind comments. Take care.

Sadly it only saved one persons life, but good to know it's there.

You've composed that shot so well. A good use for the phone box. It's nice that it is surviving. There's a library one not far from here and I think there are a good few art gallery ones. Definitely a few in the Highlands still in use.

Composed that way to keep the cars out of the picture Jean, but I think it works. Some out of the way places still need them and I have seen a few libraries, but never an art gallery! If you ever see one, take a picture please :-))

He visto la imagen y he adivinado el texto.

Rosalyn Hilborne club
has replied to José Manuel Polo club
Thank you Jose Manuel. I am pleased that many of the red boxes will remain. I would miss seeing them! The Unicorn is a pub/Inn and Freehouse means they are not tied to one brewery, so they can serve whatever beer they wish. Many pubs are owned by breweries who understandably want to promote their own beers.
Have a good Wednesday.

Yes I agree Andy. As for the pub, planning permission for dwellings was denied, so hopefully it will be sold as a pub still. Although, he could keep trying for planning consent :(

Cracking shot Rosa, beautifully composed, the telephone box making a great focal point. I guess the defibrillator is for the customers of the pub when they see the price of their drink (should we ever have the pleasure of entering a pub again).

All the best, Doug

Perhaps these historic telephone boxes are outdated by the times, but they are very characteristic and I hope they will never be removed.
