Horningsham Church.

Horningsham Church.
St John the Baptist church in Horningsham. There were beautiful views across the countryside from every angle, walking around the churchyard.

I love the architecture of this beautiful church, Rosa. You have achieved excellent colour contrast between the building and the sky. Cheers, Joe

Two super images Rosa...............the church looks very impressive perched up there looking ove the country side. I like the colour of the stonework and especially the red roof!

I note that you're now venturing across county borders............that's very intrepid of you :)

Thank you Keith. The graveyard at the back is in 3 tiers and quite steep. I want to go back sometime, as there were a lot of very old head stones in good condition.

Well, I actually go through 3 counties in the 12 miles, Somerset, Dorset for about a mile and then Wiltshire. Intrepid indeed ;o)

A beautiful setting for your church, nice composition through the Lych-Gate I assume that the notice on the door is closed for the duration !!! H&S wouldn't approve of carrying the deceased up those steps. Old grave yards often have stories to tell has the front been cleared or was it never used for burials . Another storm this afternoon. Enjoy the rest of your evening Rosalyn

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
That's exactly what it said on the notice Peter. The lychgate was beautiful as were the views from around the church. There were graves at the front, including a row of recent cremation burials.
At last we have some rain....now let's hope it knows when to stop!

Thank you Jean. It's a beautiful village, but quite hilly! They have a nice pub, The Bath Arms, but of course, it was closed.

You seem to have a few hills in your vicinity. They make for lovely photographs and as a bonus keep you fit as well.

Our village church is also St.John the Baptist, but it is built of red sandstone and is nowhere near as mellow in colour as this one in Horningsham. I see that your weather was OK 3 days ago, Rosa. It;s been very drab and rainy in Shropshire, and the heavens really opened up yesterday.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Amelia club
I love that there is such a variety in the colour of stone from county to country in this country. It didn't stop raining yesterday and quite heavily at times. Other parts of Somerset have suffered flooding. Better weather again over the weekend hopefully.
