Lacock, Wiltshire. A lot of 'noise' in the picture, so better not viewed large!

The real reason we were in Lacock!

I used to go ice skating in my teens, but never got to be very good. I wouldn't dare do it these days, Rosa. Did you have a go?

I used to skate when I was working in Bournemouth in my youth, but always had trouble turning!! I am now the chief bag handler and photographer. Although it is very difficult to take a decent picture with the lights flashing, changing colour and the speed people go past! I usually get a arm or a blurred body in the shot!!

Two great contrasting images. A lovely warm glow in the main one and a much cooler tone in the ice rink one. The penguin intrigued me and your comment about the real reason for being in Lacock made me laugh.

It seems to have become an annual outing on new years day Jean. Sophie uses a penguin to hold onto at first, until she gets her confidence to skate without it. My two daughters are very good skaters, but these days I just watch ;-))

A lovely traditional Christmas window a rarity nowadays, window dressing is becoming a lost art'
the Iso is bit high a big advantage of image stabilisation you can hand hold at quite slow speeds
The Christmas ice rink in Leicester has gone now I think it gets plenty of visitors

Lacock only has tasteful window displays Peter :) I'm afraid I resorted to no flash auto for the window picture.

The main picture has a Dickensian look about it, the old curiosity shop perhaps! The noise is not a problem, for me it adds a little texture. Really like the composition of the rink scene Rosa.

Thank you Doug. I agree it is rather Dickensian. I usually go in this shop but we were too late. Spent longer at the skating rink.
Best regards, Rosa.

Hi Rosa
A very nice pair of pictures. The shop window reminds me so much of the old days, and very fitting to Lacock. Such a great contrast to the ice skating!
The nearest I came to ice skating was when we used to make a big slide across the snow covered playground, but I suppose that today, even if the school doesn't close, then the teachers will stop it for elf n safety!

Best Wishes
Peter

Hi Peter,

Yes it is very fitting for Lacock. We normally walk around the village before skating, but it was the other way around this time, and all the lovely little shops were closed....maybe that was a good job after Christmas!!

It's the lawyers and get them sued brigade that have spoiled it for so many these days, sadly. I keep off the ice now, but love watching them.

Best wishes, Rosa.
