Mudeford Quay.

A marvellous view and shot!
I know the county boundaries were changed in 1974 but I hadn't realised that the Dorset had gobbled up the coast this far east! To me Mudeford hass always been Hampshire!

It is beautiful there Andy. A lot of people were upset back in '74 when the administrative boundaries were changed. Their excuse for how they were arranged was that it reflected traditions in the middle ages!

This picture brings back memories for me. My fathers neighbour had moved to Mudeford from Birmingham to work on the Bournemouth Echo, and in the early 1970s I took my father down to stay with him for a few days. I camped with a couple of mates, and being fishermen we spent a few days fishing the Stour and the Royalty Waters on the Avon.

But the highlight was that somewhere near this spot we saw a shoal of Mullet on the surface. We quickly set up a rod and fired a number of “casters” out towards them with a catapult. To our amazement on the first cast we hooked a very large fish, and with our light roach tackle a battle that lasted 15 minutes took place. It was a great relief to land a mullet that weighed just over 5lbs.
